Both as DJs and producers, working together or individually, their sound is unmistakable and recognized the world over. Independently Timmy Vegas and Andy Ward have many years experience in the industry: Timmy has forged a diverse music career which has seen him writing musicals in New York and spending time on tour with Led Zepplinn rock legend, Robert Plant. Timmy has more recently worked with pioneers such as Tony Humphries, Frankie Knuckles and Barbara Tucker as well as having original productions for labels including Soul Heaven, MN2S, Big Love, Blackwiz and Z Records. Recently relocated to Spain, Andy made his name as a DJ in Birmingham, where he was the resident at the legendary Macro Polo. Andy appeared on Galaxy Radio in the mid 1990s and currently presents a weekly show in on TKO 91.9fm while retaining his long-standing residency for Soul Heaven. Soul Central began their production career in 2000, putting out a number of releases on labels such as Soundmen On Wax, Henry Street Records and Kenlou as well and their own Clean Cut imprint. Steadily gaining support throughout, it was in 2004 that Soul Central’s profile experienced a meteoric rise due to their re-interpretation of Derick May’s techo classic ‘Strings Of Life’. Originally released on Whistlebump and licensed to Defected, who commissioned a vocal from Kathy Brown. ‘Strings Of Life (Stronger On My Own)’ debuted at 6 in the UK singles chart and was an international crossover hit that put Soul Central on the map. Soul Central have subsequently released ‘Need You Now‘ - a rework of Nikita Warren’s 1996 track ‘I Need You’ - on Defected and ‘In-Ten-City’ on Soul Heaven to widespread acclaim. They have additionally produced a string of killer remixes for the likes of Mel B, Estelle, Groove Junkies and Knee Deep. In 2006 Soul Central remixed ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’; Fedde Le Grand’s UK 1 and worldwide crossover hit. In addition to their world-beating production, Soul Central is continuing to travel the world as one of the world’s most dynamic DJ teams. Never afraid to drop peak-time anthems or soulful vocals, Soul Central are unique in their understanding of how to combine a true, underground house sound with a big room party vibe. With an adventurous sound that can be both tough and dynamic and smooth and soulful, they purvey a diversity that puts them in a league of their own. After creating quite a stir over the past few months, Soul Central’s latest release ‘Time After Time’ featuring the vocal talent of Abigal Bailey is out now on Defected. The lush, piano led original is complimented by a brace of Yoruba Soul remixes courtesy of Osulande which will keep this grooving the clubs for some time yet!! With the combination of hot new releases such as ‘Time After Time’ and the continuation of their hectic DJ schedule Soul Central will be a duo on everybody’s lips for some time to come. |
