Opera Gallery Dubai Announces January Exhibition - Icons of Art 09 Dec 2014
International Gallery to Host Modern Masters Exhibition

Dubai, UAE – December 9th 2014 – Opera Gallery Dubai, part of the internationally renowned Opera Gallery network, is set to unveil an ‘Icons of Art’ exhibition in January 2015 for a limited time run. The retrospective will mark the gallery’s first exhibition solely dedicated to contemporary masters who significantly influenced 20th century art.

‘Icons of Art,’ depicts the various developments and major changes in art history through a display of a meticulously curated selection of nearly 70 works from exemplary contemporary masters who forever changed how the world viewed art. In addition to works from Pablo Picasso, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, Fernand Léger and Henri Matisse, celebrated work from Andy Warhol, Fernando Botero and Alexander Calder will also be unveiled
to illustrate the works of genius from impressionism, post-impressionism, fauvism, expressionism, abstract art, cubism, futurism among other modern art styles.

A remarkable exhibition, not only for highlighting the developments in art as it relates to genres, mediums, and expressions over the last century, but also considers the evolution and progression of cultures over time.

Famed impressionist Renoir’s oil on canvas Deux Filles Dans un Pré (Deux Femmes Dans L’Herbe - 1910), which was held in various private collections, will act as the focal point for this show. The painting illustrates original impressionist style with its analysis of the effects of color and light in real time with Renoir’s use of plump rosy-cheeked women to depict femininity,
health, happiness and all the comforts of an idyllic natural world.

‘With the impending arrival of prestigious art institutions such as the Louvre and the Guggenheim to the region as well as a burgeoning local art scene, now is the time to showcase the acclaimed artists who have forever shaped and defined modern art. We are thrilled to present ‘Icons of Art’ at Opera Gallery Dubai this January. Showcasing an exhibition of this caliber demonstrates the gallery’s on-going commitment to offer the region a diverse selection of global contemporary art,’ said Sylvain P. Gaillard, General Manager, Opera Gallery Dubai.

Additional selected works included in ‘Icons of Art’ that convey various art styles and medium include: Tete de Faune (Picasso, 1958), Nature Morte (Marc Chagall, 1975), and Cattails and Yellow Moon (Alexander Calder, 1968).

Since Opera Gallery Dubai opened its doors six years ago, the gallery has significantly contributed to establishing Dubai as a global hub for culture and art with its cutting edge approach.
